Hi Smiler, it would be worth checking if the electric fans are running all the time. Failing that, it could be a stuck open thermostat. My temp gauge drops too but the heater is working fine (thankfully) so I'm sure it's just a dodgy temp sender switch. I'd change it if I could work out which one it is Cheers Jim

Smiler. If your heater is OK when the temp gauge is up (if it goes up) the thermostat will be faulty. The under cover missing will not affect the water temp. GOZZ.

| if it does'nt open your heaters will be cold and it will overheat or just opens slightly it will be luke warm best to take out the thermostat test it in some really hot water to see if it opens if it opens only a little change it dont get it from ford £60 get it from vauxhall £40 ask for one for a 1995 on frontera 2.5 tdi they have the same engine as the scorpio i had the same problem as you last week i changed the thermostat and it cured my problem

| You've probably got a dodgy temp gauge sender then if the heater stays hot

I've found temp gauge senders to be pretty unreliable. In the 3 years I've had the Scorp, I've had 4 new temp gauge senders, as they keep failing Another thought....maybe it's the gauge itself. Had a similar problem with the wifes old Mondeo, gauge would suddenly drop down to about quarter, stay there for a bit & then rise back up to the middle. Changed the t-stat & gauge sender & the cooling fans worked as they should.....so I just put it down to a dodgy gauge. As the car was running fine & the heating was still nice & hot, I just couldn't be bothered to worry about it anymore .....
