Exhaust manifold studs

Hi, Im new and have a 2.3 dohc Scoprio, 98. I got the car and it had had a chg change but the owner dicovered it hada cracked block. So I got it off him, but also had another engine to replace it. So whilst the new engine was out, I thought it a good idea to give it a good service and clean down. Well this is where the problem started, while changing the exhaust manifold gasket, I have sheared a stud!!!
Well, now how do I remove the old stud without doing any damage to the head. I have another head but didn't want to go down the road of stripping the engine. So any advice would be gratefully recieved, and if I can help out in return just ask. Robbo.

Try a stud remover, failing that drill it out carefully

Robbo.
You must drill it centrally then gently heat the head, and try to extract it with an easyout.Failing this, drill it right out and repair the thread wih a helicoil.

Well I took your advice and found in an old box with a left hand thread tap, it took a bit to find a bolt. I had the dye for it as well and turned a right hand thread bolt in to a left hand thread. Bolted it in and as I tightened one it slackened the other, with a lot of wd. Hey presto, stud out. Now all I have to do is remove a stud from the old head.
Cheers again for the advice and setting me in that direction. Robbo

Lots and lots of easing oil like Duck Oil or WD 40 and then two or three nuts tightened onto the stud you wish to remove Lock them up tight and then try to slacken off using spanner or socket... one the one nearest the bottom of the stud ( nearest the manifold) Or alternatively buy a new one Grin.  Always worked for me. BUT patience is required if it is VERY tight . Sometimes just tightening works but LOTS of the easing oil and let it soak a while if possible .
