1998 Scorpio Ultima 3.0Lt Cosworth estate, auto. (face lift) Hello again to my very helpful friends. I am in real trouble. The car has not moved a wheel for quite a few weeks, when I tried to start it, the battery was flat, after charging for a couple of hours, the head lights came on and the dash display was like a christmas display. I checked the auxiliary fuse box, and found it looking very damp, (cover had a bad crack in it), I tried drying it out, without any luck, so I located a replacement from a breaker. I assumed all the fuse boxes are the same (they are like a bus-bar chamber) and you install fuses and relays as required?so I transferred all my fuses and relays in the same order to the replacement box. Having marked all cables and connectors, I replaced the fuse box. on re-connecting the battery, the head lights came back on. I now think its a damp problem in the Central fuse box. I thought the Auxiliary box was difficult to work on, but looking at the Central box I need all your help. 1/ Are there any instuctions for removing the Central fuse box. and its replacement. 2/ Can you advise me on the possible reasons for the faults, and any way I can cure them I think I was influenced by the normal problems of dampness in the auxiliary fuse box, and having found it, I didn't check the hand book for the circuits, although I'm sure the replacement fitted will have saved later problems. I hope you are all feeling in the festive mood, and can be my Farther Christmas? May I seriously wish you all--A Very Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year. BLAKE.

Just make sure all the plugs into the fuse boxes are located correctly especially the Central fuse box on the drivers side . The plug on this one WILL locate one row of pins out and appear to be ok but will cause all sorts of problems .

Hello Snoopy. I have not yet touched the central fuse box, I am trying to get a replacement first. I have been trying to find some details or instructions as to how you can remove the central fuse box, but as yet I have not. Thank you for your help. BLAKE.

Click on the bottom picture here: http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/fusebox.htm Remove the stiff felt above the pedals (assuming it's there) & that's what you'll see if you look up from the footwell you need to remove the 4 nuts. There may be insulation clipped over it to the 4 studs, making it difficult to spot. Of course getting into the footwell is another matter

Easiest to prop a mirror in the footwell and put a lamp in there, then a 10mm socket on a longish extension,1/4" is best. GOZZ.

I've recently done this (around 4 bleeding times) its pretty simple remove a few parts of trim from under the steering wheel then just stick your head under the pedals. Luckily I managed to get my chair back far enough to get my head and hands in to take the four nuts off, the fun part is taking the sodding multiplugs off!! which when your hands are freezing off in the current weather is no easy task!!! Hello Pete. I'm on my first one, I can't imagine how you have managed to do this job four times, (and still remain sane) I think this is the worst job I have ever done on the scorpio. I replaced the auxiliary fuse box first, but that did not cure the fault I to am in this freezing weather,I have managed to remove the four 8m nuts, and found it was not possible to lift out to under bonnet. I have released the cable net and ties, so tomorrow I have to find a way of marking the connectors and bases before I can remove the box. I find the lack of room at the back and top of the fuse box lid to stupid for words. I'm dreading the replacement part. did you take the box apart to repair, or get a replacement? Regards. BLAKE.

I was convinced water is getting in under the main fusebox, and like earlier posters have indicated, even the " easy " job of tightening the four small fusebox securing bolts was a major undertaking. As well as your two normal ones, an extra 4 foot long arm is required, plus the bendiness ( steady on lads, keep it clean ) of a Russian An event in London! Gymnast and the digital dexterity of a watchmaker. All to tighten a few nuts. It's a nightmare
