Central Locking failure.

My 96 Scorpio is getting pretty ropey and tonight it seems to have given up. All keys including red key have not opened doors for ages but have relied on central locking fob. Tonight that failed tried reprogramming but nothing doing. I can get in via the boot using red key but cant unlock doors from inside. Could it be the keyfob battery or the fuel cut off ? Help I really need to be able to use the car at the moment.

Sounds like the remote battery, replacing it should allow you reprogram it and get the doors unlocked I'd advise getting at least one lock sorted before the boot lock fails and your down to breaking windows Sounds like the doors are deadlocked. I always advise using the keys to keep the locks in working order, otherwise what generally happens is that remote fails and you're locked out because the locks are stiff or siezed.

Dont think it can be the fob battery as a little light on the top of the dash lights when fob button pressed. Any ideas how to open doors - can't open them from inside the car !

Success! I had been putting the key to position 2 not 1 seems to be ok now. I think it may have to go- as a non mechanic the impending repairs are going to cost more than the car is worth. Front seat has collapsed , serious grunging from clutch intermittent whines from I think rear bearings or brakes and also wife hates parking it ( lots of minor scrapes and bumps). It was given to me 3 years ago and I have had 80 thousand miles out of it so no complaints.
