Heater/Aircon stops circulating air

When first started the system works well, but after 30-60 minutes nothing comes through the vents (hot or cold), although the blower motor continues to work.

Re programming does nothing.

The car is 2.3 Ultima 1998.

Help/advice will be appreciated.

hi there

if no air is blowing (hot or cold), i'd think the evaporator is freezing up, due to a faulty thermistor.

The problem occurs when I'm running the heater as well as when the air condtioning is on.  Could the evaporator freeze up when the heater is running?

IN Short Yes because the evaporator is BEFORE it gets to the heat exchanger .

Try switching the A/C Off and see what happens it might give you and us a clue /

The same thing happens when I switch off the aircon and just run the heater.  It works well for anywhere between 30 and 90 minutes, then the airflow through the vents dies to nothing.  It sounds as though the motor and fan are still running at full blast although no air whatsoever is coming through.
If I leave it off for a while and then turn it back on, it will  start to work again for a short period.

tpb.
Is the aircon compressor definitely stationary when you switch it off,is the clutch jammed ? as scorpio_man says,it does smack of a faulty de-ice switch.

also if the air direction is at demist position, the a/c is still on even if the green light is off.
