Needles flicking - radio code

Hi all

Having just fixed my screeching back wheel bearing over the weekend I went to start the car this morning and was greeted with the engine turning over just fine but not firing and the dash needles flicking. I tried again with a bit of gas and it fired up ok.

Looking through here it looks as though the battery is on its way out - which is ok as I have a new one ready to go - happy days eh :-)

Do you agree that this is the best first course of action?

One thing I don't have though is the radio code - can anyone give me some advice on what to do?

Thanks

Tim

Make sure the battery is of the right capacity. Here Some of the lads here have the software to provide the code BUT you will need the serial number of the radio which involves removing it.  Have you checked any documents with the car as sometimes the detail is written in a handbook, service book, radio booklet or on the sales invoice.

Thanks Simmo

"Make sure the battery is of the right capacity"

It was purchased for a previous Scorpio that didn't live long enough to receive it :-(

"you will need the serial number of the radio which involves removing it."

It's never easy is it :-(
I'll trawl through the paperwork but I'm 90% certain it's not there - I'd love to be wrong this time :-)

Can you give me a link to a "Removing your radio with ease" page????

Cheers

I take it you have the right battery as in my earlier link. As for the radio removal have a look at THIS page which displays various types of 'removal keys'. I think it is the design shown at the very top of the page ie:a 'V' shaped piece of wire but I'm sure the 'experts' on here will know. The 'key' is inserted into the holes on either side of the unit and releases the securing clips allowing the unit to be pulled out. Smiley

That's right old fellow  Grin two minute job, keys available from motor stores, not expensive ! I think Tim may need the model number of the radio as well as the serial number (but I only think this)  Wink

I think you can buy a little thing that you plug into the cigar lighter that has a battery in it to keep the code when you remove the car battery.  Now I havent seen one recently and I am not sure if it would work with the scorpio. Have you tried trickle charging it with a battery charger as at this time of year there is a lot of drain on the battery.
