CC 'key' symbol

Hi all

What a godsend this website is... well done and thanks to the owner, admins and members!

I recently purchased an Ultima 2.3 98 facelifted model.
The CC panel has a small key symbol above the digital temperature on  the right (drivers) side display...
Looking through the posts and site I can't find anything on this so fare (apologies if I've missed something obvious, newbie and all)

I've reset the CC as per instructions and with no error codes.. however the symbol still remains...

Any ideas anyone?

Hi

Is this symbol still there when you turn the ignition off?
If it is then it is probably caused by a break down in the layers of the display.
It’s made up of layers of glass the LED & a Polaroid film, oil, WD40, switch cleaner etc can creep into the layers & create black shapes around the edges.

No I think you've got me wrong...  It comes on only when the ignition is on... It's clearly some kind of warning light on the LCD display itself and it's a real 'key' shaped symbol that's displayed just above the two temperature digits, not a smear, mark, stain....

I have it in the garage at the moment so if no-one has seen this before I'll take a photo after the weekend and post it online for you to see...

Just looked at the display of a dismantled CC & there is nothing above the digits apart from the tracks that feed the digits.

hi there

i was thinking it might have been for the automatic environmental control. the one that switches on the re cir when it detects pollutions, etc.

couldn't find any reference to it.

it's well strange.

i go back to my first guess.... replacement screen. Grin

Have you got the controls on recirculate or outside air..... Put all controls at "normal " setting . I seem to think its linked to an auto pollution control but never seen it before and its NOT in the handbook . can you post an actual picture of the display .
PM me your Vin Plate number as well please .
I will try to find out .

I am unable to find out any details of the symbol..... I( think someone has substituted a different display unit in the control for the A/C as previously suggested.

It is listed as a standard R reg Vehicle built 1/98 from my info .

A picture of the actual control unit with the display would be an advantage NOT a made up one!

Ok... just got the car back from the garage... they suspect a blocked matrix... however, now I'm thinking it could well be linked to this warning symbol... Apologies, I thought the physical temperature changed when the control setting was adjusted... it doesn't...

So what now?!

I've just taken a photo and uploaded it to the same web address as before:

http://www.macresolve.co.uk/key_symbol.html

Hope this helps...

Hi Phatt98,

I noticed on the photo's that you linked here, that you have a RDS 6000CD radio/CD player fitted. Do you have use of the steering column controls? And do you have a CD changer in the boot too?
Sorry to go off topic, but I'm trying to find a decent replacement CD player for my new '96 Scorp.
Many thanks.
