hi Trevor is a big enough battery in the first place (CCA)? generally it points to the battery, but i wonder if your glow plugs are drawing to much current? only an idea. does it do it all the time or mainly from cold? glow plugs don't come on when the engine is warm, iirc. hth

its the correct batt m8 and it does it most of the time hot or cold it only flickers when the starter solinoid does its silly sticking thing so its looking like it could be the starter drawing exess current

The contacts in the solenoid are either dirty or worn which is the cause of the solenoid clicking. Depending on the model of starter and solenoid used you may be able to get new contacts . I managed to get some our TD rover when it did the very same thing ..... If I can find the site again I will post it but some searching I am sure will locate them for you . This SITE will help and identify the parts required.
