roof aerial broken

My radio roof aerial has been broken off. R reg 2.3 ultima. It's broken at the base where it connects into the roof fitting. Does the aerial screw ito the roof fitting? If so any suggestions as to how to get the broken stub out. Or do I need to replace the roof fitting? If so how do I get to it through the interior light/sunroof switches.

The answer is that the ariel itself screws on to the mount on the roof. The roof fitting is simply removed by first removing the interior light. This just 'prises' out. That gives you access to two phillips? screws which release the surround holding the sunroof switches. This, once the screws have been removed, will come away from the clips which secure it along its back edge. It can be a very tight fit so don't force it rather 'wriggle' it from side to side. Thjis would seem to be your only option unless there is some of the thread still protruding from the roof in which case if you can drill out the threaded piece left in the aerial you MAY be able to re-attach it. An ariel from a KA will fit the mount.

Thanks Phil. I remembered you'd done it but couldn't remember which one you'd used.

Does anybody know of a decent "shark fin" replacement that would at least have equal performance compared to the original antenna?

So far, I've drilled into the roof mount and screwed in a short length of brass studding. I've attached an old aerial and now have radio reception back, but I'm not sure how good it is. I will have to drive about a bit to find out. I'll investigate if I can refix the scorpio aerial, as my current fix will probably foul the roof rack.
