CD player switching itself off

Just this morning the CD player has started to switch itself off when going over bumpy roads - round here that means every couple of hundred yards. LCD display goes blank and I have to switch it off/on again to get it working. I'm guessing a loose connection on the back of the unit...but how do you get it out ? Is a special tool needed ?

Mike. I've left a message on your answerphone. If you mean you want to remove the radio itself from the dash then yes you need 'removal tools' which I have, having just swopped the unit in Lynn's Focus. I'm assuming you have a standard Ford radio. Give me a call, Mike.

I'm assuming from your profile its an Ultima estate and that it will have a multichanger in the boot and not have a 6000 RDS head unit. I think the problem will more likely be in the boot area if bumpy roads are doing it, either dirty contacts/wiring or a loose mounting bracket. The multiplug just unclips, its one complete loom from changer to head unit, no other connections in it. check under the rear seat in front of the passenger side rear arch, the loom can get damaged here. You'll see it coming out below the side bolster if you lift the seats.
