Depends on what you mean by "handling". If you're planning to go down the forced induction route with a turbo or supercharger, then yes, it should easily produce in excess of the power figures you mention - the restrictive MFi setup from earlier 2.8's was capable of 250bhp on the Janspeed turbo setups The EFi gear is RARE tho - i've only ever seen it on 1987 ( D-Reg) Grannys, and i'd say 90% of those were, for some strange reason, Hearses - im lucky enough to have a full setup on my 3.2 XR4x4 If you're thinking N/A power - then you should be able to hit the 200bhp mark with the right engine setup - remember you'll need the authentic 2.8efi throttle bodies (larger than those on the 2.9), and to do an injector upgrade as the standard ones flow too little juice for big power. You'll probably need to think aftermarket management too, as the EEC-IV wasnt made with power in mind (although the scorps late EEC-IV with closed loop lamda control as fitted to the 2.9's is a much better bet) One more point to mention - the EFi 2.8 setup is very good for torque, but not so for BHP - i've seen a standard xr4i with EFI conversion produce just 140bhp but about 20% more torque than standard when tested on a rolling road.....
