sometimes its both the S and R but your switch contacts may just need cleaning

removed switch and wiggled it it worked now can see what rubbish mpg i can get

Hi Philip read this firts: http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/instreset.htm Then, if you feel like it, remove the dash and clean the instrument cluster's connector's contacts thoroughly with contact spray and contact lubricant -- before you start repairing the innocent trip computer switches... parts of which will jump in your face and all over the floor... it's the old for 15 years or so corroded contacts behind the instrument cluster playing up.
