Hard to tell without the data. What was the CO, HC, Lambda, CO2 and O2 values?

lambda value is correct, so either cat not hot enough, or cat on its way out.

| I concur. If it is the cat(s) you'll need an ODB reader to determine if it's the LH, RH or both though.

I think you guys are right, the car has developed a rattle an I suspect it to be the cat. Are they a pain to fit?

They can be, sometimes they come off easy, sometimes they dont. Do you know if its both failing or just one?

Changed my LH cat - access was no problem but it did snap a stud on the downpipe bit, so manifold had to come off. Drilled the offending stud out no probs (use a HSS drill bit VERY slowly) and then nut and bolted it back together - couple of hours work tops. So, remember to buy manifold gaskets in addition to the manifold>cat gasket just in case. And you're right about the rattle - the car developed a rattle before it affected emmisions.

FMD service booklet states 2,3h is needed to replace both cats, and additional 3h is exhaust manifolds need to be taken off. Might be good to know when negotiating fitting price.

| Yes, but so did the original for me (14 years and 170000km). The steel ones lasts longer, no argue about that, it doesn't crack up before its "consumed" etc. I was more thinking on the lifetime of the car otherwise, the newest are 11 years old already. In this particular case price diff was more than triple.
