Power steering

Just got back from 2 weeks holiday and jumped in the Scorpio and thought the steering was a bit heavy. I wondered if it was just me, having been driving a rental car for 2 weeks and just a case of getting used to the Scorpio again.
Well, a week has passed and it definately feels heavier than it used to.
I've checked the tyre pressures are OK and the PAS fluid level is correct.

Where to look next ?
Anyone else had this ?

Cheers for the quick reply JC.

The column UJ is ringing bells - had a similar thing happen on a Mk2 many moons ago - I'd totally forgotten about it !

I'll give it a shot of WD40 and see if that makes any difference.

hi there

i think most of it's in our heads.

when you swap from one car to other all the time, it's not much of a problem. it's when there's a gap between them, that's when you notice it.

in the last 3 weeks, i've driven my mondeo for a week, no driving for week (back op), then the mondeo for part of this week. last night i had to drive the wife's honda civic. we've had this for 3 years, most of the time i had it because the wife stole the scorpio. anyway, the point! i couldn't believe how light the steering and gear change was. nothing had changed. it was only because i was now used to the mondeo.

that's where i think most of the issue is, but as pointed out, you can check a few things. remember the difference in tyre size from the scorpio to most other cars.

I have to agree somewhat with scorpio_man from my sig you see i have a few cars and if i drive one for a week or so then the next  one does'nt feel right or how it used too (or how i remember it ).
i used to drive a new shape astra diesel estate for work then on a friday night getting into the mx6 was very different and never felt how it did last weekend i would then spend the weekend tinkering (in vain) untill i felt it was how it should be(or how i thought it should be) or was the last time i drove it.

not saying scorpio mike has not got a problem but it could save you time effort and money.

I don't need to go down the gym, turning the steering wheel isn't usually a problem for me  Tongue........ Grin

But a heavy steering may not be all that bad, as it's good a workout for the arms, shoulders & chest. Even a light steering will still work & move these muscles  Wink .......That's probably why most lorry drivers are built like brick s**t houses  Grin

JC.
Modern lorries have to be able to be driven by girls, the steering is very light, unlike the old 8 wheelers I used to stand up in to steer  Huh We ALWAYS changed our own wheels on the road, now the girls just ring up and lie in the cab 'till someone else does the job for them, mainly because they would not have the strength to loosen the wheel nuts or get the wheel off and on the carrier   Roll Eyes
