hi guys, i,m running one of your fine 24v bob cossie motors in my xr4 and the tickover is running a bit fast. It drops occasionally but then increases. Any advice would be much appreciated....cheers pete.

i cleaned mine with carb cleaner, then an application of light oil into and around the spring and plunger mechanisms inside. made all the difference.

Hi Pete,

Slight change of subject but is your Xr4 a 4x4?

Tell you what though boys, i,m well impressed with this 24v cossie engine, i thought the 2.8 that was in the car was fast , but this is impressive. Its a standard engine on a 5 speed manual box, k+n filter and a powerflow exhaust without a cat. Its a bit...no a lot...thirsty, and it makes an orrible chain rattle noise when starting....is this terminal or "one of those things".  but other than that..nice

ICV here

http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Advice;action=di splay;num=1246310097

The chain rattle means the chain guides are probably broken (and possibly lying in the sump beside the oil pick up!) the tensioners may also be gunged up and not holding oil.

Yours is in an XR4 and i dont know what set up you have to run it, but with the Scorpio if it detects Wide Open Throttle (WOT) eg accelerator to the floor when starting then the engine should turn over and not fire letting the oil circulate, exciting if it fires up though Smiley

costs involved to repair it are similar to the costs involved if a chain jumps or actually breaks , although a second hand engine is the cheapest/easiest fix Wink

Thanks for the advice guys, i cleaned the control valve and it started with a lovely tickover, soon as i revved the engine it started racing again, although not as fast. I disconnected the plug and it runs perfect, revs up and drops to a nice tickover, dont know if its right but it sounds good....old fords eh.

Pete it is on the right way??
its possible to fit them the wrong way round and it does exactly what you describe if its on back to front,

remember the pic in that link i posted is looking from behind the engine, gearbox end
