More Bonnet catch woes - 2.9 24v

I posted this in a previous thread but just realised as the thread title says "Now Open!!" then I might not get too many views for my fresh problem - it's not been a good day :-(

Like  Chieftain I've just had my 24v bonnet release cable go. Found out when I was trying to replace a flat battery so I have one very dead car at the mo.

Gozz mentioned this in a previous post in this thread.
http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Problems;action= display;num=1221670296;start=15
"If you dispense with your grille and look underneath the slam panel, right in the centre is a round hole in the centre of a slightly convex pressing. This hole is exactly below the conical latch fixed to the bonnet. If you put a small 3" screwdriver up the drivers side of the hole, beside the latch you can press the lock plate over quite easily and spring the bonnet."

So a couple of questions, is it possible to wiggle a long thin-ish screwdriver through the grill and reach the hole that Gozz mentions. Assuming it will be 20 mins of hit and hope!

Actually I just re-read the post - I guess I'd need a fairly strong L shaped rod to try and get that idea to work.

If not and I need to make a hole in the grille can someone give me any advice on the right size and location and also some possible tools for the job.

Thanks for any help

Tonyboy, thanks for the reply. I've looked at the release handle, the cable appears to be attached at that end. I could pull through about a 2 inch loop of cable & it's cover / sheathing  into the interior of the car and I'm assuming either.

1 - It's just slack in the cable and cable cover and something very odd is going on

2 - the end of the cable has detached from the bonnet release catch. I didn't try and pull any more through in case that caused me more trouble down the line!

The release lever has no resistance when you operate it i.e. no load on it.

Cheers
