HIYA,COULD ANY ONE GIVE ME SOME ADVICE ON THE PROBLEM I AM GETTING.I HAVE A 1995 2.9 12V SCORPIO ULTIMA.THE PROBLEM BEING IS AS FOLLOWS,I HAVE TO WAIT FOR ABOUT A MINUTE OR SO BEFORE THE BOX ENGAGES IN EITHER REVERSE OR DRIVE.HOWEVER ONCE IT DOES ENGAGE IT DRIVES NORMALLY.THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE OWNED A SCORPIO,SO ANY HELP WOULD BE REALLY GREAT THANKS.

First one would be the Fluid check. . Warm up engine put in D then some one with foot on brake and check fluid

Do NOT drive before you have checked autobox fluid level! And remember that fluid level "shrinks" when hot! It may seem that fluid level is ok if you check it as too cold.

Please take your CAPS LOCK OFF its like shouting on a forum ... Your box sounds as though it might be on its way out.... Make sure all the vacum pipes are connected as the 12v relies on a vacuum for it to engage 4th gear. Check the colour of the oil and its smell. The gearbox level MUST be checked when its HOT and with the engine running . If you have done all of that then it might be that the box is on its last. The symptoms of failure are VERY similar but the 12v boxes are quite easy to get hold of. The MOST important vacum pipe is located under the IACV at the front of the engine bay under the air intake
