Hi again people, firstly wanna say thanks for all the help i got from you guys with my brother in laws Scorpio, now it`s my turn lol. Just replaced the front discs and pads, bled the system the old 2 man way, brakes are super spongy, almost having to slam them to brake and now they`re making a grinding/screeching sound while slow driving, I`ve used coppergrease as instructed in the manual provided on here and put everything back EXACTLY how it was, the system has been bled about 4 times now but still spongy, the springs that hold the pad onto caliper only goes on one way doesn`t it..totally totally confused now.any ideas guys PLEASE!!!

Geoff. I think the trick is to keep the jar of fluid ABOVE the bleed nipple and to grease the threads of the nipple to stop air getting in that way. I'm sure this was a method used succesfully recently. Possibly Jonnycab??.

Hi mate firstly is you car a manual or auto? if manual then when bleeding the brakes did you let the oil go below the hydraulic clutch take off? can you see any visible leak from around the seals on the callipers? have you done up the bleed nipple? can only think of the basics atm

Tell me if i'm wrong but is it nesecsary to bleed the brakes after changing the brake pads. The reason why i'm saying that is because i changed my discs and pads about a month ago, all i did was to open the brake oil resevoir put a rag in there to block the hole changed the discs and pads put the lid back on the resevoir started the engine pumped the brake pedal a few times and it was solid and it's been ok since. No spongy brakes

Geoff. Give em a few days of careful use to level off,if you are too hasty you can jam a leg of the inner pad retaining spring outside the piston and possibly damage the boot, worth a check ? GOZZ.

I managed to put one of the springs on wrong, the pedal went practically to the floor & felt spongy. Make sure the part of the spring arrowed is correct.

| Yes, it was me.... If you clamped off the pipes & they were solid & then went spongy when you unclamped them, then it does sound like you have air in the calipers. When bleeding, it's very important to hold the jar above the bleed nipples to maintain pressure, otherwise air gets drawn into the caliper via the nipple threads. If after you've bled them this way & air is still getting drawn in via the threads, then try wrapping some PTFE tape around the threads. This worked on my MK1 Granny when that proved a real b****r to bleed

Hi you can find out where the air is by clamping off each wheel in turn till the pedal rock solid then release each one in turn as you bleed that wheel leaving the others clamped don't foget to keep the master cylinder topped all the time

| Yes ......could also be caused by too little or no copper grease or similar high temp grease
