A while ago I posted that my one and only key would not open boot, it was suggested that before changing lock have a new key cut.  Yesterday had just that done at Timpsons in Bangor, £8 for plain key or £80 for chipped.  £8 lighter my boot can now be opened with a key Grin Grin

No but why should I? have good chipped key. One day may well pay for new chipped key, but being able to get into boot is worth £8.

When I got my present car the boot would not open with a key or any other means except to drop the seats down and crwal in and flick the lever, when messing about I unhitched a small white microswitch in error and when I pressed the switch I could hear a solenoid working, so I extended these wires into the rear of the car behind the back seats so when I want to open the boot I access the rear door put my hand in, trigger the switch and hey presto the boot opens

If kept in the same keychain, wouln't it be close enough to read the chip while the other one is in the lock?

Possibly.

But using a remote is a good option and they have come right down in price on ebay.

Yes it does quite well, and I do have a remote but a key is useful all the same. Grin

My saloon boot wouldnt open with the key or the remote  It wouldnt even open if i shorted the wires on the central control unit ?

I pulled the backseat forward and found a choke cable  straped to the boot hinge  so i pulled it and the lid opened  Shocked Grin

Its on the list for a proper repair  Smiley

Stixy. It sounds as though the previous owner found a 'mechanical' way of opening the boot with the engine running BUT not allowing anyone to do so from outside the car.....ie: opportunist villains at traffic lights!.  Wink.  There is a 'taxi' option programmable with an FDS  machine which allows the boot to be opened if the engine is running but presumably this 'device' goes one stage further.
