Grrrrr !

Just driving home when I noticed a loud hissing sound and spotted a lovely jet of water and steam blasting from the front grille of the ultima - looks like the rad has said so long Sad

Is the cossie rad unique (and uniquely expensive so far - £415 !!!!! ) so an i saddled or can anyone suggest either a cheaper source ?  Will the DOHC rad work in its place ?

Im not a fan of second hand rads if i can avoid them Sad

Yep, any auto radiator will do, 16v, diesel, 12v etc
i have a 16v one in mine, just replaced the header tank with the 16v one (extra hose in the 24v) and its ran fine ever since.

Spotted this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-GRANADA-SCORPIO-DOHC-2000-2300-RADIATOR-1985- 95_W0QQitemZ370218461362QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item5632bd68b2&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

says for manual cars, but as the scorp has a seperate oil cooler for the box, is there any difference between the rads ?

yep, the gearbox cooler pipes run through the coolant  radiator at the nearside, you'll need an auto rad

pinto.
The Scorp has two coolers, one in the rad and an auxilliary one under the rad.If we drove the cars sedately the rad one would be sufficient, but to avoid the old problems of boiling ATF when towing or caning, the extra one is already there to save us the trouble of finding out the hard way !

wondering if its possible to just uprate the auxillary cooler and junk the rad one - the chance of £35 radiators is too good to turn up Wink

Dont bother with the std oil cooler in the rad or the separate one

fit one of these with the £35 rad

Look around and they are much cheaper than this

Yes that will do it just check the clearance between your air con rad & grille

Just a case of extending and re-routing your cooler pipes

Very good price too, even with international shipping Smiley £47.76 shipped - so looking about £100 all in with the rad !

Think theres plenty of room in the scorp between the rad and grille, or where the existing aux cooler sits

Stixy. can you not put the front back on the car after fitting one of those..... or do you have to leave it off like you have done (might make night driving a bit awkward without headlights as well I guess!!! Grin

Interesting stuff. The begining of the end for my Cosworth was the auto cooler radiator going bang on the motorway near Paris a few years ago. One of these at the time would have prevented a lot of heartache and woe!!

pinto.
Beware of cheap radiators, they usually have a row or two of waterways short, and although they may offer sufficient cooling they are generally weak and of an inferior quality.
