Hi Dave,

Can you drive as long as you like and it doesnt overheat? only when stationary?

what are your fans doing?

do you have both fans running slow?

do the fans run slow/fast/not at all with the Aircon on?

checked the fuses? (symptoms dont suggest the fuses but have a look)

Fuses

• Fuse no. 37 controls the energizing and de-energizing of the relay. If it burns out, both fans will always be off, since the PCM will have no way of turning them on, neither on low speed nor on high speed.

• Fuse no. 39 controls both fans on low speed and the first fan on high speed. If it burns out, none of the fans will work on low speed, and only the second fan will work on high speed.

• Fuse no. 44 controls the second fan on high speed. If it burns out, both fans will work on low speed, but only the first fan will work on high speed.

All three fuses are located in the auxiliary fuse box, next to the battery.

OBD scan would be the easiest way to find whats wrong, can you get one done?

With an OBD lead you can see what the PCM is currently ordering the fans to do. On the Enhanced page there are two PIDs: LFC (low speed fan command) and HFC (high speed fan command). If LFC is ON, the fans should be running on low speed. If HFC is ON, the fans should be running on high speed.

If LFC is ON, the fans should be running on low speed. If HFC is ON, the fans should be running on high speed

It should show you if either of the above states is currently active, you cant activate them as far as I'm aware.

What you are looking for is HFC showing ON showing the PCM is telling them to run fast but the fans NOT running fast, that would indicate a wiring/connection problem

hi there

iirc, and i'm really not sure on this, but you can 'test' them using VE.

it might be lead dependant, but go in to TEST tab, then enhanced.

you should see the controls for the fans there.

hopefully it'll work. Wink Undecided

I realise that your car is a Cossie, I have a 2.3, and when the switch (one of two) that lives attached to the thermostat housing, is disconnected, the both fans default to high speed.   The connector has a small wire clip that keeps it in place rather than just a push fit.   The other switch on the housing is for the temperature gauge.   This may tell you at least if the fans are actually working on high speed, and if they do, then you'll know it's a wiring fault or sender fault.   Of course, this only if the system is similar to mine.   Maybe I'm just blethering!   Lips Sealed
