Rusting sunroof

Oh I've only had the car a few weeks and I'm starting to find little problems with the car. I have just noticed that the front corners of the sunroof are rusting. I spotted this when I open the roof and found bit's of rusty metal by the wind closure. I guess this has been caused by the seal around the roof leaking over the years? The question is how easy is it to replace the glass sunroof and make sure this doesn't happen again? I've found some instructions on this site to do with the sunroof but nothing seems to tell me how to take the sunroof out and replace it. The next question is where will I be able to get a replacement sunroof and how much? Will a Mondeo Mk1 electric sunroof be a direct replacement as I still have my old car at the moment? Not had this problem with my N reg Mondeo.

Very common problem with granada and scorpio I think you can get a sunroof but its about £200. I dont think the mondeo roof will fit , I think I tried one when looking for my granada. The glass bit is held by 6 screws and can be replaced on its own, if you can get the screws out.

So Ford still sell a replacement sunroof for the Scorpio? I thought they would not have spares any more. Where are the screws located, i've got the electric sunroof? Do I need to remove any other parts of the sunroof mechanism, motor etc?

Take care with the ratchet-based electric drive mechanism - the teeth are only plastic - as mentioned in the two links. I had my car's sunroof replaced under Ford's 6-year corrosion warranty because of rust under the rubber seals, but then the Ford garage damaged the drive when putting in the new roof (and argued that the drive must have been faulty beforehand - or maybe they did it deliberately; they weren't really that pleased that I had persuaded Ford to agree to a replacment). It just requires careful alignment. IainC
