ABS/TRACTION light stays on in PLYMOUTH

Hi To ALL, Very frustrated now ABS/TCS light stays on on initial test, 1. I had a failed sensor on drivers front which has now been replaced and is working all 4 sensors now read 1.08 on an ohm test. 2. I've powered the ABS motor direct from battery and it worked straight away, i've resoldered the connections to the ABS module from previous postings and from service points but all looked to be ok. 3. the 2 rear sensors have been removed and fully cleaned as very dirty also the hole the sensor slots into has been cleaned as best as possible. Yet the ABS/TCS lights stay on on initial test. 1st Do the rear sensor housing need to be further cleaned inside the hub? 2nd does the module need to be reset via ODB2 to switch off lights on initial test, as now possible fault cleared? Thirdly is the module possibly faulty and requires replacing? Until I can get the 2 lights to swith off on initial test there is no point rectifying further small issues for the M.O.T. This has been the best of 3 24v ultima estates that i've owned and don't want this one to go to the scrapyard for many years to come if possible. Regards Chris

If the abs/tcs light stays on, then i would remove the rear sensors again and clean the cog inside the hub. Make sure to clean the faces and in between the cog with wd40 and a small piece of cloth or a cotton bud.

To test if sensors work in your car you can: - lift up a thecar with a jack, so one wheel is in the air - unplug the multiplug form the ABS module - connect to the pins of multiplug that comes from sensor (refer to wiring diagrams) - measure the resistance to check that there's no wire breaks/shorts between sensors and the module. - connect with oscilloscope (you can use notebook line-in for this purpose as Tompion offered ) and twirl the wheel. The signal should be a sinus with the amplitude about 0.8V - 1.0V. Once you do it for all 4 wheels you will be sure that sensors are working and signal goes to the ABS module. The light goes off when all is ok. If sensor was the cause of failure you have to drive 50-100 meters for light to disappear. I didn't reset erorrs in my ABS, and inspite of that light went off after fixing the sensor and resoldering module.

Hi to all, I'll have another look at back sensors inside hub assembly and post my findings. My ford dealer in Plymouth no longer carries equip to reset ABS light if that is required, Does anyone know of auto electrician in Plymouth area who carries relevant computor programme with correct lead. Ebay sell many OBD2 leads has anyone got the correct lead on ebay that can read the ABS codes? Regards Chris

Hi to All, Less stressed today codes for ABS 1450 1495 were showing failures can anyone help with exactly where 1450, 1495 can be resolved if not wiring connection problems? these have now been reset and have now changed the way the ABS & TCS lights are now coming on on initial start the system now some times stays lit and other times turns off. If lights go out the ABS and TCS lights flash about 1 per 2sec then once driving the lights eventually stop flashing and stay off. If I use the TCS switch on the centre consol the TCS will switch on and off as the switch is pressed. It appears now that the fault lay with the connection to the TCS motor control unit near to the radiator I'm now going to clean connections to this unit on Saturday. The good news is that the light will now turn off once the car is in motion just need it to turn off 100% of the time when the ignition is switched on for the M.O.T. If you do come to Plymouth for a drive beware of the 50 or so fixed speed camera's and the 8 mobile units our council beleive in the motorist funding everything Regards Chris
