'Clunk' from back end !!

Hi all .... my Scorp ('96 2ltr saloon) has developed a clunk from the back end when I brake and slow down. Just a fraction of a second after the point when the car stops you get the 'clunk'. It sounds like the back axle has decided to catch up with rest of the car!!!!! Who's going to give me the bad news ?. And how much it's going to cost. Cheers d.x.t

Its either a CV joint or a wheel bearing. BOTH worth checking .

Does it clunk just after selecting a gear as well ?.....if so, it could be a worn diff causing too much backlash.......

CV joints usually make a continuous clonk...clonk...clonk sound when worn - check by getting underneath the back of the car and trying to move the driveshaft around near the CV joint - any play should be noticeable. Just wondering if your problem might be a worn propshaft U/J
