All power has suddenly gone.

Hi Folks. I have just gone out to put the 2.3 into the drive for the night, turned the ignition on, full display, turned to start up and everything went dead. No power at all to anything. Checked the battery connections and they are tight, dry and clean. I had noticed the flicking instrument needles syndrom over the past couple of days but would a battery go absolutely dead instantly? Can't do much until daylight but any pointers before the dawn? Many thanks

Many thanks gents. That link is really excellent and all the symptoms are there. It is a horrible feeling when all systems suddenly die like that so a new battery only would be a big relief. It has also prevented me from gaining the title of the most perfectly ruptured man in Belfast by describing how to remove the battery properly. I will report back tomorrow on replacement. Cheers

Hi Big Timer. I'm located at Dundonald, near the Ice Bowl. I was 'Granada Man' for twelve years and this is my first Scorpio. Love the car but at present I just seem to be waiting for the next problem to develop. Todays fault is indeed the battery but as it is the next best thing to a monsoon here it will have to wait. KwikFit have one for £70.00 fitted so thats the very chap for me. Cheers

John, Just be sure that it is the correct capacity as detailed in the link that saved you a hernia! . A smaller battery will not handle the power needed for these cars as many have found to their cost.

Many thanks Simmo. The good news is the monsoon here abated for a while and I jump started the dead one and drove to KwikFit. You where spot on. i.e. the wrong battery was fitted in the first place. Nowhere near the capacity required. New unit installed, alternator reading spot on. All done and dusted for £70.00 all in with a three year warranty. Many thanks again for everyones help. Now time for copious amounts of the black stuff! John

Hi Big Timer. Oh yes, I was that man. 1991 2.9i Granada Scorpio with chrome arches, fitted to temorarily hide the dreaded rear wheel arch bubbles until the money was available to repair them. Five years they were on, God only knows what was holding them in place. Had to sell her as bodywork requirements would not have been financially viable to me. Could have sold fifty of them if the resonse to the adds for free was anything to go by. Seriously impressed with my first Scorpio but seem to be going from one problem to another, but I will prevail. Contact me anytime at the Ice Bowl. Ask for John, the vending man! Sorry, forgot to add that I have made one donation to this site and will shortly make another. I would have been lost re; the workings of the Scorpio compared with the Granada. Cheers.

jonnycab.i cant believe it.the rosetta bar is my local.there has been some big bands have set foot on that hallowed stage, from thunder to nuclear assault.and a few excellent tribute bands.there has always been a rock band played there.but recently it has changed hands and the live entertainment has dwindled somewhat.it has even had a few raves take place.it has even give 2 years notice for closure to make way for appartments.an end of an era. you could be hacking your way through the deepest jungles of brazil and end up meeting someone who has been in the "ROSIE" that was the type of bar it was. tell me jonnycab im bit of an old rocker myself and have seen many bands upstairs at the rosie, and have drunk many pints out of the plastic pint glasses, what was the name of the band and ive probably seen you or heard of you
