Just a quickie, i need to replace the rear pads on my 2-3 98 Scorpio estate, base model, what i need to know is can the piston be forced back with a G clamp, or does the piston need to be wound in with a spanner?if so clockwise or anti-clockwise, Thanks Bob

It winds back and CANNOT be forced back with a G-cramp. You really need a 'wind back ' tool. It can be done with pliers in the grooves BUT for the cost of the right thing it is not worth the effort. The 'cube' shown Here is a great little unit and will do the job perfectly. You turn the piston clockwise.

THIS might also help. The rear pads are at the bottom of the page. The Draper cubes are also on e-bay.

I had one of the cubes and it fitted three out of the four rear callipers I had. I can only assume that the other calliper was an after market item and the tool didn't have the right spacing for it. Cheers Jim

I have just done this job. With the Draper cube that I was advised to purchase by this forum. Easy Peasy! I also wound both pistons OUT a good way so that I could check them and spray them with a nice coating of Motorcycle protective grease before winding them in. They seem to wind for a long-way, and need to be nearly flush for the new pads. As someone on here said to me, "Make sure all the handbrake fitments are free, and the lever on the caliper moves easily before re-fitting the new pads".
