Hello everyone, I got a problem with my scorpio, so I searched on google and found this site The problem is that when i start the car, it shudders for a few seconds, then the car fights to keep it running idle and then it shuts off. So I replaced the spark plugs and the mass flow sensor, checked the coil packs. And replaced wires, like shown on this page: http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/dohcloom.htm But still no succes. Then I connected it to the computer, it says something about the mass flow sensor, too high voltage. Could it be another broken cable, somewhere .. I hope someone does recognize this problem and can help me with this. The car has 146xxx kilometers on it and i hope to double that regards, Mark

The mass flow sensor is on a different loom to the one you replaced so it’s possible. Did you clear the codes? It could be an old code.

Thank your for your reply. I did not clear any codes, I put the multimeter on it, maf signal return, and it says 4.85 V This page tells me it has to be from 0 - 4.75 V http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/mafdata.htm I think that some of those cables from the maf having something to do with it, think they are broken/cracked. I hope it's not to hard to replace them. Maybe someone could point me in the right direction. regards, Mark

I meant about the cable, is if very difficult to replace it? Because the one on top was very easy accessible. And if there may be something else that is causing this. Mark

Sorry Mark, misread it. I can’t say with that loom – not had to work on it. Afraid I don’t have time to look up the pages at the moment, but hopefully someone will be along to help you out. Have you tried disconnecting the MAF? Have you looked at the IAC: http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/pooridle.htm Dave

Well, it works now I disconnected the battery, to change the boardcomputer. And disconnected the boardcomputer. I connected the battery again, after a few minutes. And all of a sudden the car runs smooth again, and drives normally. Like the computer had a 'reset'. Hope this may help others with the same problem as my car had. Regards, Mark

| I don't think so, because in a couple of days this thread is shifted downwards, and with the precise 'subject' it will be difficult to find it by the search function. Regards Armin

Mark, the fact that disconnecting the battery for a while cured the problem is something which has been recorded before. It does not work every time but sometimes it resets everything successfully, as it appears to have done in your case. Thank you for the update. As Gozz says the regulars on the site will have noted the result which is how the knowledge builds up.
