Traction control kicking in after bumps, 24V

Gentlemen, there is a problem. Anyone experienced the traction control kicking in and shoving your foot back (how horrible a sensation is that btw) after a bumpy bit of road? Seems worse if under acceleration - a bit unnerving too if you have just planted the loud pedal to leave someone behind - it all goes off the boil and you find yourself in the way. A quick lift off seems to reset the situation, but there is obviously something wrong. The ABS light flashes, too. Tyre pressures are OK. Any ideas chaps? (1997 24V saloon).

well it doesn't happen if you switch it off....further research on the site points to faulty sensors so guess I'll have to look into those. Tyres aren't worn...

Yup got to agree with Martin, check the shocks. It sounds to me like axle tramp causing the rear wheels to spin slightly hence the traction control kicking in. HTH Tc

ex-kuse me my wheels are the same blimmin size....but shock absorber... yes, that could well be suspect with the roads these days. It's done about 95k, my previous one had done 130k and was still AOK, mind you that was an estate, they're different shocks aren't they? Will have a look see this weekend, if I don't see any weeping oil or obvious signs, does that mean the shock's OK? I suspect rear nearside. This is just about the first thing that's gone wrong on this one, did have an intermittent gearbox snag but that seems to have fixed itself. Not a bad record all said and done, is it.

Jeff. At the mention of the rear nearside the thought of a dodgy wheel bearing springs to mind. It is often that bearing which fails. Could that be a clue?.
