Hi Folks Again.

My sun roof motor has decided to impersonate a set of false teeth operating at minus 20 degrees but not going anywhere!
I have read the items on removing/replacing the motor and it does not seem too bad a job.  My query is has anyone else attempted to open the roof manually with a bit of muscle to give everything a good lubrication first, with the hope it may work again.
The sunroof was operating very smoothly before this cold weather set in (about twenty years ago ) and prior to the insane clicking noise now prevailing.  Also where would I get a motor from without taking the chance of one from the dismantlers?

Many Thanks.

Sounds like your motor is ok.

the problem is usually the small plastic cog which runs the sunroof mechanism, the sunroof runners can seize up if they arent used/lubricated putting pressure on the plastic cog which strips the teeth or maybe the sunroof seal was frozen to the car?

remove the motor from inside and the sunroof can be pushed back manually, if you try it with the motor still attached you will break something, either the car or yourself Smiley

The plastic cog is on the motor itself, i have replaced them before with a cog from a burnt out motor.

a replacement motor may be the easiest thing to source but lubricate the runners before you fit it Wink

Many Thanks.

Noticed the advice about getting the sunroof to the tilt position to try and lubricate.  Forgot to mention that mine will only open about half an inch before the clicking sets in.
I will remove the motor if all else fails but not in this weather as i've no garage and its not worth catching nemon, nomone, ponemoneia, pneomion, a very bad cold.

Cheers again.

After removing the motor. I used a sunroof handle off a Mondeo to open the roof manually. Lubricate the runners as Stuart has stated and this should do the trick.
As most Scorps have A/c the sunroof is sometimes a forgotten item.
Open and close on a regular basis and this will prevent the same happening again.
