Tailgate lock

I've tried to get the lock on my R reg 2.3 estate working today after soaking it in oil overnight..... Using more muscle than brain power, i've broken it in half  Sad
My question is this,... If i get one from a scrap yard, will i be able to use it without the key for it?
I'm assuming the central locking will keep the tailgate locked & i obviously wouldn't be able to open or lock the car with it.
Hopefully with this other lock, when i unlock the car i'll just need to push the button in to open the tailgate.
Any pointers?

hi there

you can change the lock, but you'll not be able to unlock it with the key, if the car is locked.

other than that, it isn't an issue like that.

Another question(s).....

Am i limited to a lock from another estate, or would one from a saloon be ok?
What about a Scorpio, Granada, or other derivative or make of car?

Just so i have options.
