No AVC on Radio

I've just noticed that my radio which is the old style 2700 model on my 2.6 24v Ultima is no longer adjusting the volume as the car speeds up and slows down. I know it used to do this when I first bought the car and I think their was an option through the select button to change the amount of AVC? I can not find this option through the radio, so does anybody know what will have caused this and how to solve it? Cheers, Mondeoman
