when i start scorpio, it doesnt register on rev counter for a couple of mins unless i rev it gently, and then it flickers about like mad, after 2 mins it shows 1000 revs on its own, when i drive and i kick down it fluctuates madly before it settles. any ideas.

not sure, battery never got flat turns over car with ease, does the coil produce signals to the rev counter. its not the situation where speedo and rev counter fly right around on ignition, just seems to flicker up and down like its unsure where to rest when driving normally

If it's the 2.9 12V then the rev counter works from the alternator, if it's 2.0, 2.3 or cossie then it works from the EDIS module. Also, check that the small lead on the battery negative is on nice & tight. This can also cause the rev counter to go loopy....may also cause alarm problems

My 2.9 12v had this problem when I first got it. The garage replaced the diodes in the alternator and fixed it. (I think this is basically the bushes).
