Hi Guys, I can't open the sunroof. It will vent upwards but when it goes down it will not retract. I cannot here any whirring sounds from the motor so I don't think the cog has gone. Any ideas Thanks Lee

that happened to mines, mechanic said rubbers are swollen , so this afternoon i stood on sill of car and worked the button and pushed the sunroof down so it would fold back under the steel roof, it worked. i then put baby oil ahem all over the runners and the rubber seals , working well at mo.

I think that not being used over the winter the seal tends to get stuck , mine did, But my sunroof just started working one day before i could have a look at it, so i sprayed some teflon spray on the runners and every where i could get to and cleaned the seal.........

| Yep to all that, I use Vaseline. The seal surround expands so it won't go through the 'ole in the roof, needs to be "retrained"

I checked mine today after a winter of non use, it flipped up no problem, however sliding back was a little more difficult in that I had to help it, I noticed the rubber seal was swollen at the join. I was a little down hearted when I saw rust flakes in each front corner that had presumably come off the actual sunroof edges. Anyhows, I cleaned everything up, including the green gunge round the seal edge, oiled as per site instructions and now it's working as Ford intended it to work.

Yep it's the join at the back that catches, bit of persuasion and lubrication is needed. Yep I've got a few more rust flakes appeared I've just discovered, need to hoover them up then I'll put another coat of waxoyl on the frame. Already oiled the cables, I think the flakes were dropping off the bottom of the actual moving part, need to investigate that. May be able to dab some Hammerite on.

As an aside, mines a manual winder not a leccy, which is kind of handy cos it means I can get it more flush in the roof hole and limits seal swelling, although that means the handle is slightly offset at an angle and not fully in its closed position recess.

Hi Folks. Mine will not tilt or retract. As reported earlier, it just makes the dreaded clicking noise from the cog. It lifts about a quarter of an inch but not enough to lubricate anything. It was working perfectly up to Christmas time. I do notice flecks of rust in both corners from the inside. Anything else worth trying before removing the motor? Cheers

The dreaded clicking noise probably means plastic spline coupling has had it I'm afraid. Was it frozen shut at any time do you think? With ice I mean

I think everything was frozen here over the last four months. Assuming you are right I take it its replacement unit time? Cheers.

I'm not an expert by any means just going by what I've read here, but whirring noises and no movement suggests the cog thingy has had it yes. Probs still need to open the roof properly, IIRC could do it by assisting the motor by pushing it down at the back and physically sliding it. Maybe

If you can get a spare cog from an old unit, then that should do it. If not a new one is needed. Lee

Hi. I had trouble with my sunroof last year. It would tilt but not slide, so I gave it some assistance and got it fully open. Then I couldn't get it shut! Using a block of wood and a hammer (gently) on the front of the frame, I managed to close it bit by bit. I must have moved one side more than the other and pulled something out of alignment as it will only tilt now and not evenly. When closed there is a slight difference in height from side to side. I guess I'll have to live with it.
