Temperature Guage

Hi Folks.

During normal driving the temp guage on my 97 2.3 Ultima reads dead centre normal.  But cometh the motorway it literally falls into the blue, in fact almost a zero reading.  The temperature itself is fine.  Does this point to the temp guage sender or some other sinister wee beastie?

Just while i'm here, is the sunroof motor on a Mondeo the same as the Scorpio?

Cheers.

When mine was doing that it was a faulty thermostat.
At first I thought it was due to the air speed, but holding it in 1st gear with the revs high the temp dropped just the same. I assume at higher revs the coolant was getting past the stat.

Note the stat can be fitted the wrong way round which may have the same effect.

Yep, had the same thing. The answer was a proper Ford t-stat -the one that was playing up wasn't. And as Tompion said, make sure it's the right way up.

If memory serves, there is an arrow on the side which should be at the top when fitted.  Lee

The side with the spring goes in first. If there's a small hole or air bleed valve, that goes to the top.
