Well guys, have collected the car, seen the cooler and Gozz and Highlander were both correct, in that one of the pipes had corroded and come away from the cooler after the impact. Temporarily joined pipes together until replacement is obtained (hopefully 14th June). Thanks for all interest and advice.
Just a thought, couldn't what's left of the old pipes be ground off and new ones brazed on?

You would need to find a skillful aluminium welder George,or clean it up thoroughly and do a cold repair with a modern resin, there is of course very little pressure in the coolers, the oil just flows gently round and back to the box.

What about tapping them, 1/8 bsp or somthing like that, and putting in hose ends. There might not be enough thickness of metal, but just a thought.

Will it be harmful to use the car now without the cooler, to move my caravan about five miles?

Thanks Gozz. I have moved it now. There were a couple of short climbs but it seems ok.
I guess I shouldn't do any distances with the 'van though until the cooler is replaced?

Well i had a look at the cossie cooler & im afraid to say it is suffering from what looks like 'fractures' in the pipework Sad....BUT... Dont despair. I also have a cooler taken from a 12 valve & it looks identical. Same size, same amount of cooling rows & is in good nick Wink. The best thing to do is take it, try it & if it does the job just make a donation to the site Smiley. As for the ariel....... Still cant find it Sad. Im beginning to wonder if the mice have made off with it !!!. I will P.M. you my number & we can meet up when im down there. Cheers... Craig

I have BIG mice in my shed and they leave currants and raisins all over the floor, god only knows where they get them from, I did offer to collect some for the wife once to make a currant cake with, but she threw something at me and told me I'm a thicko.

Personally,  i think that the standard cooler is a bit pants - you can buy much better rated ones from Ebay (Ebay US is better, even with postage) and put them somewhere much less damageable Smiley

Thanks Craig (Tons of Fun) The cooler is fine. Just fitted. Now can anyone tell me if a non speed sensor steering rack can be fitted to the Cossie?  I need a replacement rack and all the second hand ones seem to be without the sensor. I can't afford a new one and MOT is due soon. I would be glad of any advice.  Thanks
