After 3 years away Rover 75 CDTI Conn SE Tourer..my son (2 new children) has cabbaged my Rover, Now the reason for the Rover was that my missus ran into the back of an Audi and wrote off my beautiful Panther Black Mk2 Cossie Estate...
The problem is I've seen a very Low miler Cossie(not cheap mind) and those old inhuman pangs are coming back again....I mean what sane person would opt for sub 20mpg around town and sub 30 on the Motorway these days...So come on you lot talk me out of this insanity before I do something that my wallet will regret!!

Purchase price matters very little - it's tyres, repairs, service and FUEL that makes up the big bills. Buying a very good car for 2000 can quickly prove a lot cheaper than buying something for 100 pounds sterling.

I want one myself. Best value for money there is, I reckon. My Mondeo is a better car in most ways, but gives no pleasure - it's transportation. The only thing I'd rather have than a Scorpio is a Jaguar S type. But I'm not sure it's worth 3-5 times as much money.

Prices are definitely on the up BUT £2000 is among the very highest i've seen.

If you decide to spend that much on one, ditch the wife first!! Wink

I note that nobody is trying to make an attempt at justifying my potential purchase...hmmm
Well, I knew that you had to have to have a sense of humour before...perhaps "certification" is the requirement these days!

Yes, I had one written off due to rust somewhere unreachable behind the rear wheels once?
I agree, if it doesn't look like it just came out of the Ford showroom, then walk away!

I looked at the S type too, rear wishbone bushes not available seperately, you need to buy the upper and lower arm from Jaguar (no pattern parts) at £500 per pair!

It's really 'horses for courses' isn't it?   I suppose if I was to count up everything I've done to mine in my sixteen months of ownership, then I would be quite surprised.   I'm still determined to get a set of steel wheels and put chunky-er tyres on, along with powder-coating my 12 spoke alloys, that will cost about £400, all in.   My car is only a 2.3, (by choice) and has absolutely no rust on it even underneath.   The paint-work is tired though, and there's a dink in the boot.   I got mine for about a £1000, (I say about because it needed taxing, although because it was a disabled tax on it I didn't know!)   Everything works on mine, but as folk know on here I've done a good bit of work on it to bring it right up to a really good standard.

It would need to be a very good car for £2000 or more, but aint there a Gal on here that was trying to sell a supposed really good car?   On hind-sight, I would have waited longer and been patient until another member was selling a good car, and that would also get a bit of banter going when and if there was a wee problem.   Nothing like knowing where a car has come from, and buying from an honest person.   If it came to it in the future, I'd buy from someone off this site, although one might wait a long time!

Peter.

There is a basic 2.3 manual, no extras (no A/C) apart from adjustable headlights and heated front screen, with 40,000 miles for sale here at around £6600. Probably won't fetch it, but for £2000 here in Norway, you won't get much.

Not the best of ideas to try, Denmark, Norway and Finland has a high car tax on top of VAT, paid on first/import registration. Of these countries Finland has the lowest tax. Systems are different but end result is the same, a lot of cash is collected.

To Finland, the import tax on a scorpio is roughly 700-1200 euros depending on what they retail for in Finland. Once you get a decision (one week to one month usually), tax needs to be paid in 10 days. Import MOT is 200 euros + license plate costs. I a finn drives a foreign car in Finland and gets caught, full tax will be collected, even if the car was borrowed or rented. The only loophole is when one moves to Finland, then you can take one car per adult, but you need to wait 1-3 years to sell it. Norway removed the system of tax free cars for new residents a couple of years ago.

Tax for a 1998 Scorpio Cosworth is about £ 14,000. Yes, fourteen thousand. In other words, not an option.
