Driving to work last night it was panic stations!!! i had smoke bellowing out from under the bonnet at 70mph, made it to work and discovered that the manifold (the plastic one that the thermostat bolts to had split!!) near the thermostat end looks like this part runs the length of the side of the engine, Has anyone had this problem?wondering why it split? my car is P847 AFR a 2.3 ghia. Thanks Steve.

As Stixy says a VERY common problem. The 2.0lt manifold, which is aluminium, can be fitted in it's place with a little adaptation, some people on here have done it to good effect. There were some Transit ones on ebay a while ago at a fair price they are virtually the same as the 2.3.Simmo may pop up and tell you more,he is the archive Guru. Result for P847 AFR My 2.3 ghia... Good News he lives on!!!!!!! found a second hand manifold in the scrappy £15 ( bargain), me and my buddy work nights so we worked all night then went to get the part when the scrappy opened at 09.00 which was fitted today along with a new thermostat and obviously antifreeze etc, went on a 6 mile drive and everything seems ok, so off to bed now been up 28 hours!!

we had the same prob on our 2.3 ultima r reg, thanks to this website and the guys on here we got it replaced. if you go on ebay you can get one for the transit 2.3 which is the same for the scorpio. if you ring ford and ask them how much for the same stuff which was the injectors, thermostat, and idle control valve. you are looking at £350 but we got the whole lot for £85 if you want the link to the bloke on ebay with it give me a shout. the only thing you had to change was the metal pipe you had to change it with your old one as the new one was too long. becki
