O/D light flashing

The o/d light starts to flash about 10 seconds after the engine starts. The only effect I notice is that it wont go into top gear, otherwise the engine runs ok, no wierd noises, 70mph at about 3000 revs. Have disconnected the maf sensor and nothing changes, so the maf is ok? Any ideas? Thanks, Mike

It,s telling you there is a fault,an OBD readout will clarify it. GOZZ.

| If its not ok, unplugging it won't make any difference Is your speedo working ok? could be a variety of causes, an OBD scan is needed as Gozz said http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/odlight.htm

Dunno, is it driveable? Does the gearbox work normally as far as you can tell? Could also be a wiring problem, there's another page about that somewhere

before I buy a lead and software, is the Scorpio Ultima 24v OBD2 compliant? Apparently it's the system they use on the software........

If you read This page it should answer your question. If you post your location,or put it in your profile, there may be a member nearby who could do a scan for you.

You won't need to entertain the mighty Ford empire, any small garage needs an OBD 2 scanner to be able to operate, and you should be able to grease the man's palm . GOZZ.

just a thought but when my o/d light started to come on now and again it transpired it was my loom causing this which i then had to replace.

OK, I know a fairly friendly garage, will ask them. Another thing I notice is it will do 70 at 3000 revs with no problem, but when I take my foot off, the revs drop immediately to just above tickover, but the car doesn't start to slow down as you would expect, it feels like it is coastng, but put your foot down and it picks up again. I am in Birmingham

it is coasting, its on overrun, the injectors will be switched off and it wont be using fuel. It should be slowing down though unless you have discovered perpetual motion

Yes, it does slow down, but not as quickly as usual when you take your foot off, like I said, it's coasting along as if it were in neutral

Sounds normal, the revs should drop to tickover and the car coast when you lift your foot

Must admit haven't taken much notice! There's a one-way clutch for the O/D isn't there? on Jul 11th, 2010, 10:45pm, mikesone wrote:Another thing I notice is it will do 70 at 3000 revs with no problem, |
| That sounds like O/D (4th gear). If were stuck in 3rd would be higher thasn that. Like if O/D is turned off (green button). (?)

That's a thought, is there a problem with the wiring for the green button in the transmission selector lever? So it's randomly & intermittently turned on and off? Didn't someone else have a problem with a wire dropping off inside? Can't remember if it was same kind of symptoms though

| No thats 3rd, 3000 rpm in 4th is a bit high on Jul 12th, 2010, 12:52pm, Mike H wrote:That's a thought, is there a problem with the wiring for the green button in the transmission selector lever? | Possible but Mike has a constant flashing OD light rather than an intermittent one and it never goes into top gear. The wire that came off just disabled the switch function with no other issues

I had this very same problem, it turned out be one of the shift solenoids inside the tranny. OBD reader is the only way to know for sure. You'll probably find it's solenoid C thats gone bad or sticking. Sometimes a transmission flush and a new filter will sort it out. Danny_R
