Hi I have a 24v cossy engine in the middle of my garage I'm just starting to strip off the ancilliaries and to carry out cam cover gasket renewall (oil leaks) There are no drive belts on the engine and I wish to remove the viscous fan but can't see how!! any idaes??

It must be a Granada BOA engine,you need an old belt to put on the pulley,then twist it and pinion it onto a purchase point on the engine.Find an open ended spanner to fit the fan boss and whack it undone with a preferably soft hammer,the thread will be left hand or the fan would tend to run off when the engine is running. GOZZ.

I had the same problem when I took a V6 Sierra engine to bits...Ooops. I removed the water pump and clamped the impeller in a vice then put a spanner on the fan to water pump coupling whle holding the fan steady. There is a special spanner for this job which you can find on ebay from time to time. Think it is a left hand thread from memory

Thermo Viscous fan eh ?....got one of them on my MK1 Granny & had them on my old MK4/MK5 Cortinas & MK3 Capri. Scorpio_Mike is correct.....they have a left hand thread
