I hope you can advise. My 2ltr 1998 Scorpio has failed on emissions. fast idle test r p m min 0.300-0.575 2nd fast idle 0.300-0.574 . nat.idle 0.500-0.863. I want to have some idea of what is probably needed,so I have some defence against being ripped off. cheers

hi there how is the car running generally? has it been serviced recently? what's your MPG like? about normal? come back to us with a bit more detail, but things to check are air filter, lambda sensor (this can be checked with a meter or using an OBD2 reader) and the cat. check also that you have no air leaks around the throttle/manifold area. hth

| Yep I'd go along with that, also, 'cause mine used to get so sooted up, the EGR valve would stick, couple of times cleaning it got it through the emissions. Hint ~ need to take the air filter element out and look at the underside, cos that's where the air comes in, just looking at the top of it with the cover off doesn't tell you a lot Even better look through it against sunlight
