Tragedy Strikes my beloved Scorp.

Hello Folks,
Owing to a recent occurence of ABS dash light appearance, I booked the car in to my regular garage, and they tell me that the ABS pump has failed.  I have four months MOT left on the car so I am urgently seeking a replacement pump in order to keep the old girl on the road.  Has anyone else had this problem, and did you find a way round it?
The car is otherwise in excellent condition, and drives well, and it would be a huge loss to me if it had to be scrapped.
Any ideas lads? regards  FredW   Cry Cry

Have a look here at Tompions fix

http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=admin;action=dis play;num=1268910490

What engine is it for? there are a few different pump versions for different engines, with or without Traction control etc

The model number on the label will help, something like this you're looking for.

Hi Fred,

Does it look like this (the controller is underneath):

Or the later type in this PDF (the controller is at the front of the valve block):
http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/brake/ABSHydraulUnit97+.pdf

If it’s the second one we can probably sort it at a Kent meet.
If you have Traction Control it’s probably the first type (I’ve not seen a TC version of the later type).

Freddie. Tell us what the symptoms were?. Did the garage 'scan' it. If so what was the fault code ?. One fault code says that the pump motor has failed when it is probably just loose contacts where the motor sits on the controller. The test is simple. Disconnect the plug and apply 12v to the motor. If it spins the motor is clearly ok and the pins are the likely culprit. That's where the 'Tompion' cure comes in.  Grin

The Fault docket reads:  ABS/ESP  Fault C1095.  ABS Hydraulic Pump Motor Circuit Failure.
I will try to upload a photo tomorrow morning.
The only symptoms were that the orange warning light started to come on intermittently, and then permanently, otherwise everything else is fine.  cheers fred

Freddie, Sounds like the controller needs repair and your's might well be the unit with the contoller on the underside. As Stuart said, Tompions repair is inch perfect, I should know. I followed the advice given for the repair and now all is well.. That was a year ago!!! The only thing I didn't do was drill the hole in the unit as suggested because I don't have a stand drill. I cut the plastic with a stanley knife(tough but doable) and replaced it back in place after the repair with glue and tape.. Do as Simmo say's and put 12v through the motor first.   Lee

Hi, I had similar problem a couple of years ago and got a second opinion and found it was 2 dry joints on the controller board that conects to the pump.  He charged me £25 and it was sorted. :)

That's exactly what Tompion found and we hope that is the answer to Freds' problem. :)

Hi All,  I`m bowled over by the many replies to my problem, and it certainly looks like a fix may be possible.   Owing to a chest infection and todays inclement weather, I havent been outside to the garage to investigate further.
All your comments have been extremely helpful, and I shall have to decide whether I have the manual dexterity to effect the repair by Tompion, let alone the tools required.  Fortunately there are a few months MOT left, so I can continue to use the car legally.
Is there a Kent Meet planned for the end of the month?, if so I could glean more information from some of you then.
Thanks again.  Fred

The next meet should be on 28th of this month. Keep an eye open on the meeting forum. Pegasus (Paul) usually lets everyone know well in advance  Lee

Fred. There should be a meet on 28/11. Send me your telephone number by PM and I'll have a chat with you. IF the controller is on the front it is a relatively easy job and Dave {Tompion) did Bruces'  (Gost) car in the car park  !!. That is he swapped it over for a repaired one. Wink Mike

Thanks Highlander, I havent been able to get to the part number, but can confirm that the unit is on the front of the pump, facing the radiator.  cheers Fred.

Hi Dave, I`m unable to get your link up on my screen. I just get a blank screen even though I have Adobe Reader installed.  However the unit is on the front of the pump facing toward the radiator.  cheers Fred.

Hi Fred,

In that case it should be the same as mine, I'll try & swap the units over & repair yours when I get home (assuming it's repairable).

The screws sometimes seize, but I'll bring the correct torque bit & hopefully we’ll get it sorted.

Thanks Dave, I will treat the screws to a blast of WD40 to perhaps free them up in preparation. Thanks again for yours and others help.   cheers  Fred.
