Fans not working

Afternoon Everyone.
Well I had a days worth of joy last week as the scorpio (24V) passed her MOT retest with just a bit of welding needed.

Next day had quite a long drive and when pulled up the expansion tank pressure release was pouring out coolant. This was shortly after I had had driven over a pothole covered in a puddle which made the car lurch quite a buit if it is any help.

Upon inspection I noticed the cooling fans were not on even though the aircon was on so I assume the engine was overheating and therefore over pressuring the system, especially as I had added a bit too much antifreeze the previous week and the tank was well up to the full mark beforehand. I have checked & reseated the fuses but since then I have noticed the fans come on intermittent

Not on when aircon is switched on and engine cold, which I thought they had to be, but does kick in when engine warm although only slow.

Unfortunately with the dark nights I have not had a chance to inspect fully.

Any htoughts appreciated (I will get round to writing up my adventures with the cooling system one day).

The compressor cycles on & off. Check the aircon clutch is engaged. The fans come on when the clutch engages (you’ll see the centre of the compressor pulley turning when it’s engaged) – so you can’t just use the aircon light as a guide as to whether the fans should be on. When the clutch disengages it takes about 10 secs for the fans to go off.

Also remember that if the air flow switch is directed to SCREEN the A/C is ON by default.

so the fans will operate.
