Oh b****r!!!

Hi All, This happened last week when I was reversing in to my garage. The rear wheels slipped sideways on some black ice and and we hit the garage entrance.
Decided to try and get the repairs done on insurance.  Insurance assessor thinks the insurance company may write the car off due to age, in spite of his opinion that the car is generally in A1 condition.  Also the voluntary and compulsory excesses amount to £350.   Still waiting a decision.  Watch this space.   Fred.     ps My apologies for the oversized image.

If you get it fixed on the insurance, your premium will probably go up next year. It'll be cheaper and less hassel to get another bumber and back light and touch up the bodywork..................

I had considered trying to get a bumper second hand, but I thought that there wouldnt be many about. The light cover shouldnt be too hard to get, and the bodywork damage is minimal. I will put a post in the wanted section for these parts, and see what comes up. I daresay my friendly garage will be able to paint and refix the bumper, and refit the existing sensors at a reasonable cost. It will be interesting to see what the insurance company comes up with.  Thanks for the comments.  cheers Fred

Freddie, if you need the instructions on how to install the parking sensors, let me know. I have a pdf somewhere showing the correct height, size of holes etc.

Yeah I agree with the above, with an excess of £350, you should be able to fix it for half that or less.

I smashed several bumpers on mine, only have to tap the d**ned things Sad

My friendly local painter would always charge around £100 quid to paint a bumper including all materials.

There was someone on here advertising free bumpers in the Parts section, may be worth a look.

Like Matt says, lights are easy to come by Wink

Good luck,

Yep, Ford plastic is evil Sad.

Nice finish, holds a nice coat of paint, but it'll crack if you so much as look at it Undecided.

I repaired a smashed one once (not on a Scorp, a smaller Ford Roll Eyes), backed it with glassfibre resin and used plenty of layers of plastic filler and primer but it took forever to get a good finish (any joins show through relentlessly once you get the colour coat on). And you're onto a loser if you can't find all the bits Sad.

Fred, not sure if you're gonna repair it yourself, but - Ford sell (or used to sell, back in 2006) State Blue repair aerosols, far better match than Halfords and a better paint altogether. Of course you could get mixed paint online but the Ford stuff looked fine on my car.

Hi All,  Thanks as always for all your comments.
The present position is that the insurance company has agreed to a full repair of the car in the new year, so I`ve decided to go for it.  Yes, it does seem to be an expensive option, but it means that all parts will be new, and they will sort out the dent in the bodywork as well.  Also I get the use of a courtesy car, which will enable me to continue with my voluntary work at the hospital as a driver.
Thanks again.    Hope you all have a terrific Christmas and New Year.  cheers  Fred.   Wink Wink Smiley
