Dipping N/S Mirror on reverse issue

Hello all just got my first scorpio (95 Ultima 2ltr Auto) and I am having an issue with the self dipping mirror on reverse.

The problem is that when I select reverse the mirror dips all the way down so I can only see the ground and when I take the selector back to drive it only returns up slightly.  Is there a way I can disable this feature or will I need a replacement?

thanks in advance

Mike.
Take the door panel off and disconnect the BLACK plug, the white plug caters for all the other functions.Best wear thin gloves, the black sealant is messy.

If you have an electric drivers seat with memory, have you stored after setting the mirror? Page 68 here:
