2.5 TD drive belt

My local garage says the belt tensioner is rattling so I thought I'd take the plunge and have a look myself.
However, there are two diagrams on this site,

and

which show the tensioner in different palces.
Any idea which one is correct?
p.s. what's an 'idler'?

Top one is the Granada

Bottom one is your Scorpio.

Idler pulley is just a dummy pulley to route the belt away from obstructions and/or to create a bit more belt area contact on other pulleys.

The bottom idler increases the crank and alternator pulley/belt contact area to around 40% without it it would be less than 25% and would probably slip

I had a top idler pulley come off on mine once, (bearing collapsed) the tensioner took up the slack and its still ran fine but the belt rubbed the top water hose.

Thanks, hoping to get round to it this weekend after I've swapped the MAP over in an attempt to cure the power loss at 2000rpm. Have changed MAF and EGR but no effect yet.

Details of adjusting the belt here:
http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/drivebelt.htm

If you go to this page & click on the link you can open a PDF that gives you more extensive details of how to set up the belt (pages 48 – 50 of the manual (50-52 0f the PDF)):

Thanks for the advice everyone. The one on my old TD was only fitted about 10k miles ago so it should be fine. As I swap things over I am putting the replaced parts back on the 'old' estate just to keep it mobile for the moment.
