Help. Sounds like a bag of bolts!!!!

Hi All. As you may or may not know, my scorpio, 2.0l 16v Ultima Auto, has been off the road since the middle of December thanks to the dreaded black ice. Thanks to rodders, I have put all the parts on but the problem was starting the car.

Once the fuel had reached the engine, she fired up, but is running like a bag of nuts and bolts. She is hunting like a pig most of the time, finding it,s way now and again, stalling, but it's not right.

I have noticed an exhaust leak, noticeable, at the manifold end and wondered if this was part of the running problem. Something else I noticed was that once the engine was turned off, one fan comes on and then the other a short while after!!!!! What the ****   Help. It's my only car and not being able to go out is straining my relationship with the other half. Your solutions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.   Lee

Thanks guys. Have cleaned the maf already. Top loom seems dry. Will investigate the exhaust leak today if weather is dry. Will also check fuse boxes for dampness as Rodders suggests.  Lee

Coil Packs can give faulty running. That is where I would be looking at.

Presume it worked OK before being laid up, so suspect most likely damp / corrosion in the electrics (?) Maybe a good soaking of WD40 might improve things.

I would agree with Snoopy, having had a coil pack progressively fail on my 2 litre the symptoms were very similar and the noise was appalling and the misfire and rough running was very similar to Lee's description.

Lee how do your spark plug tips look?

Started car today after some wiring repairs and the car does not want to run properly Cry.
It is hunting a lot, then evens out, then hunt's again even to the point of stalling, then it's difficult to start.
When the car is turned off, the fans keep going high then low and won't turn off Huh
When the car actually stays on a even turn over, there is no or little power when you put your foot down and I mean foot to the floor and the car goes nowhere Cry
What I've done.. Cleaned MAF, cleaned TPS, removed and cleaned plugs(quite dirty) swapped coil packs (lent to me by my local garage) checked all connections.
I am getting to the desperate stage. If only there were members closer that could give a hand. I don't know what to look at next.     Any suggestions    Dejected Lee

New parts was a loom? Re topic "loom wiring differences" Anything else?

If O/D is showing up it's deffo not happy, an OBD read might indicate what's not working, which will give you better clues to go by (?)

I'm also concerned by "oily plugs" [!]

Hi Mike, My loom was completely broken, broken insulation everywhere so replaced with a 2.3 loom after doing the neccessary adjustments with the extra earth wire for the temperature sender, but the running is still no better. Cry
The oily plugs I think is due to the rocker cover gasket slighly seaping.  Lee

When you crashed was in damaged front offside?

I seem to remember Scorpioman having running problems after his Front OS bump that turned out to be EDIS unit or EDIS unit loom damage caused during the crash.

EDIS unit is behind the OS headlight in front of the coolant reservoir, screwed onto the inner wing.
If you bend the neck of the washer bottle out of the way you should see it.

The big green engine fan relay/wiring is down in that area too.

Stuart, It was more or less head-on into a barrier. It went far enough to shatter the bumper into little pieces, both headlights, grill, bonnet bent over at the front and creased both front wings, hence no insurance claim. Where can I find  the unit and check the wiring please.  Thanks Lee

read my last post Wink

if the is wiring damage and you wiggle the wires when the car is running you may find it stalls or changes the engine running

Looks like this
