Stand at the front of the car, bonnet-open, legs astride, put both hands on the inside of the wings at around 'washer-bottle', and 'air-filter' position. Now rock the car side to side quite powerfully, do you get the sound? That's the link-rods! MOT man told me! Hth Peter

just thought i should post the resolution...its sorted!! although garage said they they were ok i had them change the link rods and anti roll bar bushes . these were the culprits that gave the clunking had link rods done a year ago and garage were insistent they were fine .....i just told them to change regradless ditto the bushes the new springs and struts also made an enormous difference ...corners horizontally rather than leaning over and goes over humps bad surfaces smooth as can be .........this has taken a year to sort so just passing on info
