Well after fitting a brand new cylinder head, on my 2-3 new gaskets, head bolts, etc. etc, getting through mot, no problems, i have driven 90 miles altogether, and oil is back in the coolant again! What the hell is going on? whats the chances of that happening? Can anyone advise what i'm doing. or have done wrong? Any advice very gratefull, Very peed off! Bob

Hi bob how much oil is in there? Could ir just be a bit of residue oil in water way from the rebuild?

Thanks for reply Matt, There is not as much as before (as yet!) it all gathers in the Header tank, which is pretty filthy again, Today is the first time it has had a long run, 60 miles, after the rebuild i flushed it 3 times and cleaned it all out, i am wondering if it might not have been the head at all. could it be the Rad/fluid cooler for the auto, with the fluid getting hotter on a run. therefore thinner fluid leaking from the fluid cooler into the rad through a tiny split? just a thought, don't know if that is possible, Thanks

hi there if it ran well after the rebuild and the oil level hasn''t changed, i'd say it was old oil in the water ways. remember it 'sinks' in to the rubber tubes. that's what weakens them. time for more flushing. btw, what did you use to flush it with? or was it just with water? hth

I first used water followed by a two stage flushing agent. running it for 10 minutes after each stage, then water again, think it may have been Holts flush. with stat removed. Thanks

dont panic yet bob.when i did mine i changed rad header tank and all the hoses but still had to flush it 6 times to get read of the gunge.just use sworfiga.

Thanks 5stud, guess i'll keep flushing and keep fingers crossed. last time i found the easiest wat to get the sludge out of header tank was to spray it with carb cleaner then flush with water. cheers

Yes Bob,pound to a penny it's residue,it does take a long time to get rid of,regarding transmission fluid,there is more likelihood of water in the box than oil in the cooling system owing to the pressure differential. GOZZ.

Best way ive found to clean header tanks is hot soapy water with a hand full of sharp sand thrown in, give it a good shake for 10 mins and flush out with a hose, its good foe getting coolant staining off to
