green goo in remote fob

strangest thing; remote not too good..opened had a layer of green resin over pcb and buttons...it was new a year ago....cleaned all off with acetone works fine but curious whats going on. Seen on electrical cables/fuse boxes electrolysis i think....maybe because the rubber seal is completely air/water tight something like that going on...wasnt the batteries they are clean as a whistle thought of making a hole somewhere in the rubber so could breathe ..what say you

Eww.... Mine had black gunge if it helps ~ I'm guessing some sort of grease type stuff to prevent damp effects, maybe that's all it is. Doubt it's verdigris
