Coolant tank fix

Hello everyone and thanks for allowing me here.

I own a 1996. Ford Scorpio Cosworth.
The car is great and I really love it but some issues are starting to show.

Main issues so far was that the coolant tank had a leak.
We tried to patch it up but it was still leaking after that.

Being that I'm from Croatia and very few Scorpios can be seen here, and even less with Cosworth engines getting parts is hard and can also be expensive.

So I went on a hunt for another coolant tank and I have seen a photo of a 2.5 D engine. The tank looks the same but I did not look close enough so I ended buying a tank which has 1 hose connector less than the original one.

I already spent a lot of money on this tank and an original one was nowhere to be found in Croatia so I fixed it like shown in the picture:

Question is has anone tried this before and will the car have problems with this fix in the long run.

Hello and welcome to the site  Grin

That should do fine, the hoses all return into the tank anyway.

that looks to be a 16v or 12v coolant tank you have fitted

The diesel tank is completely different

My bad.
The tank is from a 2.3 1997. Scorpio

I sure hope it'll do fine.
I didn't see it overheating so far, but then again I did not make any long trips since the fix.

I'll get back to you if I see any issues Grin

Buying this tank, fitting it, flushing out the whole cooling systems an refilling it with fresh coolant (cause it ran on tap water for a while) did cost a bit.

Are the parts expensive in Croatia?

What did you pay for your tank?

500 Kn for the tank (around 60 GBP for a used tank) because in all the other adverts the cars were crashed and the tank was broken.

No, I have more spares than I will EVER need!  Grin

I was actually in the loft the other night looking out some bits for Harewood (small bits, I don't keep engines and doors up there) and I found boxes of parts I'd forgotten i had!

Glad to hear there's more Cosworths on the streets in Croatia Cheesy
No issues so far with this type of fix. The car runs as smooth as before and there is no coolant loss.

I have a technical examination of the car tomorrow.
Wish me luck
